CHAITHANYA CBR CENTRE AT MUNDATHANAM
COMMUNITY BASED REHABILITATION PROGRAMME
According to UNESCO Community Based Rehabilitation means to rehabilitate the physically and mentally disabled, help them to gain equal rights as that of normal person and make them an integral part of society, which can be achieved only through the combined efforts of the disabled persons, his/her family, the community and various social service organizations. The different modes of action in the C.B.R. programme are reaching the disabled, promoting various preventive methods, creating awareness in the community and programme planning and implementation. We have conducted a social survey programme in the nearest four Panchayaths with the leadership of our social worker and C.B.R. workers. As part of our community oriented work for the disabled people, we have organized several awareness programmes in different communities.
In December 2005 we started a Community Based Rehabilitation centre named CHAITHANYA Rehabilitation Centre at Mundathanam in Kangazha Grama Panchayath. Two of our staff are fully occupied in the C.B.R. programme.
Since we are not getting any fund from either central Govt or local govt/ respective panchayath to run and maintain this CBR centre, we find difficult to continue and provide service to the differently abled there.
