St. John of God Centre was started for the well-being of the differently abled, in 1998, by the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God (popularly known as ‘Brothers of St. John of God’), an international health care and social service organization that has been in India since 1969.
 
The Centre caters for the needs of the differently abled (mentally challenged / Learning Disabilities ) of various age groups, through:
  • A special school
  • Six residential homes and
  • A vocational training centre.
  • A home for ‘lifelong’ / ‘permanent’ stay is under consideration.
    The buildings on this campus include:
  • The Chapel
  • The Special School
  • House for  John of God Sisters
  • House for  John of God Brothers
  • An in-door &outdoor hydrotherapy unit
  • The Vocational Training Centre
  • Six other buildings for boarders
    This Centre is one of the six Centers operated in India by the Indian Province of the Brothers.
 
A Registered Charitable Society
It is a registered charitable society called SELD (Society for the Empowerment of the Learning Disabled) and its services are open to all sections of people, especially the poor and the needy, differently abled. 
 
The goal of the SELD is the well-being of the differently abled, which includes:
           Education of the differently abled 
           Research/ resource centre for many NGOs and professional/ educational      centres                
  • Creating awareness among parents & in society
  • Rehabilitation of the differently abled
  • Imparting vocational training to the differently abled
    Providing various support to the parents of the differently abled
  • Imparting best quality care service to the differently abled
  • Updating skills and knowledge of the co-workers
